MAHANEY / MAHONEY Kathy Miller Sun Jan 11 1998
Searching for information on Catherine Elizabeth MAHANEY, born I thought about 1860 (but who knows) in County Cork Ireland, who came to New York (where? when?). She had at least one sister Mary. I find on the Ontario County census records the following: 93 J Catherine MAHANEY Hopewell 1865 12 Roger MAHANEY Hopewell 1865 12 118 Roger MAHANNA * Hopewell 1865 15 326 Catherine MAHONEY Hopewell 1865 48 326 Roger MAHONEY Hopewell 1865 48 I am not sure what any of this means.  Catherine married my great grandfather, came to Canada, and the family has lost all track of her family. I have searched many census records and this is the first time I find a Catherine MAHANEY. They were Roman Catholic, if that helps. . Kathleen Miller

MEDHURST, BEVANS, BRIGGS, WHITE  Sam Dicks Sun, Mar 8, 1998
MEDHURST, Joseph came to Ontario (Town of Seneca) in about 1830 from Leicester England with his wife, Anne BEVANS, their sons Ralph and Joseph, and daughter Sarah. Sarah married Miles Morgan BRIGGS, probably in the Town of Seneca, in about 1840-42. The elder Joseph MEDHURST was killed when a wagon team ran away in about 1837. The widow, Anne Bevans MEDHURST married a man named White (first name may be Richard or Joseph) in about 1837 or 1838. They had three children. The second husband died in about 1841 before the youngest of the three children were born. Ralph MEDHURST was naturalized in the Ontario court of common pleas. The widow, Anne WHITE departed for Illinois with her children by both marriages in about 1842. I would like information on the death of either husband, the marriage of MEDHURST children. The first name of the second husband would also be helpful. Sam Dicks, 1019 West St., Emporia KS 66801. samdicks@yahoo.com

MULLIKEN, CUTLER, SCUDDER, YATESTerri Mulliken Allen Mon Sep 29 1997
I am researching John and Abigail (CUTLER) MULLIKEN of East Bloomfield, Ontario County, New York. John was born in Oct 1785 in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts and Abigail in 1787 in Plainfield, Sullivan County, New Hampshire. They met and married in Plainfield in 1811. They moved west and settled in East Bloomfield, as their oldest son, Charles MULLIKEN, was born there 18 Jun 1812. John is listed in the 1820 New York census as living in East Bloomfield. By the 1830 census, Abigail is listed as being head of household. Their last child was born in 1828, so John probably died sometime between 1827 and 1830. Abigail moved to Michigan with her children in 1836 and remarried to Jesse SCUDDER within a year. Abigail died in 1875 in Dover Twp., Lenawee Co., MI. I've checked land records, military records of the War of 1812, cemetery records (there was a J. MULLICAN buried in an obscured grave, with no date in E. Bloomfield), tax records, wills and probate, voter records, church records, etc., etc., etc. with no results. The only definite records I can connect with John MULLIKEN are: his birth in Bradford, MA in 1785, he inherited some money in Bradford, MA from a maiden aunt when he turned 21 (1806), the 1811 marriage record in the Plainfield, NH Township minutes and the 1820 census. Other than that, I've hit brick walls. I know this is a shot in the dark, but can you help me? Terri Mulliken Allen

Tue Sep 30 1997
John and Abigail (CUTLER) MULLIKEN were married 15 Jan 1811 in Plainfield, NH and were living in East Bloomfield by 18 Jun 1812, when their first child, Charles MULLIKEN, was born. John is listed in the 1820 census as living in East Bloomfield, and his widow, Abigail, was listed as head of household in the 1830 census, also in East Bloomfield. Abigail moved her family to Michigan in 1836. Any record of this family? Also, Charles Mulliken (see above) married Syphia YATES, daughter of Barzilla and Naba (Abigail-?) Smith YATES, also from East Bloomfield, NY. Thanks for your help. Terri Mulliken Allen

NIHEN - I am looking for any information/links to the NIHEN family which is registered in the Richmond (Ontario County) census of 1865, family page 30. I "stumbled" upon this listing when I simply typed NIHEN into Infosearch. A group of NIHEN members "disappeared" from the coal fields of Northeast Pennsylvania about 1860 ... I am trying to determine the whereabouts of this line and trying to make a connection. Many thanks!

NORTONMark Norton April 4 1998
I am looking for the name of the son of Asher NORTON who was born in Ontario County, probably East Bloomfield, between 1820 and 1830 (another son was born after 1830-I am only marginally interested in him.) Asher Norton was born in Guilford, Connecticut in 1786 and died in Cuyahoga County, Ohio in 1869 (or later). His wife listed in the 1850 U.S. Census in Cuyahoga County (and presumably the mother of the son whose name I am seeking) is Ruth. He lived in Ontario County during the early 1800's (his father, Benjamin NORTON died there in 1812). I am looking for/hoping that Asher NORTON is the father of my ancestor Lorenzo NORTON who was married in 1844 in Somerset, Hillsdale County, Michigan and died there in 1865. I have reason to believe that Asher NORTON is Lorenzo's father (Emily NORTON is mentioned in Lorenzo's probate papers-I believe she may be the same Emily who is Asher's unmarried daughter, listed in his family in the 1850 and 1860 censuses and in his will). I suspect/presume that the reason Lorenzo's family is not mentioned in Asher NORTON's will is that, after Lorenzo's death in 1865, his widow Paulina remarried prior to Asher's death. (Incidentally, the Lorenzo NORTON listed in the 1840 census in Elba, NY is a different person.) Mark Norton

Looking for info concerning the following people . Stephen NORTON, b.1755 believed to have been born in Bloomfield, to James NAUGHTON & Mary BARNES. Stephen was found to be living with his family in 1800 in Norwich NY.His wife was Sybil Ann ANDERSON.

OVERACKERJoan Reichling Sat Aug 23,1997 I am researching my maternal line, the OVERACKER's, and have been unable to find the parents of my gggrandfather, Asa OVERACKER. Many factors lead me to believe that he was born in 1817 in Ontario County - probably Canandaigua, and that his father was Henry OVERACKER, but so far no proof. I find Henry in the 1820 Ontario County census, and the 1830 and 1835 Yates County Censuses. I find a listing in the Hawley Lord Cemetery in 1812 death of Richard Mead, son of Henry and Almira, but not sure if this is the same one.

PARMELY, DONELSONFran Peltier Sat Feb 8 1997
Seeking info on James PARMELY, b. 19 Nov 1757 in Killingworth, CT, moved to Ontario Co, NY around 1800. James married Lydia Robbins DONELSON, b 1770. Their youngest daughter was Emily PARMELY, b. 11 Aug 1814, in South Bristol, Ontario Co. NY. I am looking for other children of James and Lydia. Possible relationship to D. PARMELY, a silversmith in Rochester around 1860.

I am looking for any and all PARISH or PARRISH people and MARSHALL. I have a half-sister of my father, Margaret Marshall who's son, Clarence was living in the Phelps area around 1905 to 1915. Another half-sister Emma married a James PARISH -it might be PARRISH, two records differ, and lived in the same area. I might as well mention a third name Lydia KELLY/KELLEY who is "lost" and might have been in that area too. So we have three surnames: PARISH/PARRISH, MARSHALL, and KELLEY.

Sun Oct 26 1997
The other day I was searching a Soundex for 1900 in our local FHC and found a James PARISH, B May 1873, living alone in Phelps twp. My father's half-sister Emma (real name AMERILLA!) married a James PARISH and the only place I have found her was 19 Seneca Alley in Geneva in the 1920 census. She was married to a James PARISH, Boa 1870. So I have a gap between 1880 in St. Lawrence County and 1920 in Geneva, and also wondered if that was the same James PARISH. I do have her death cert. but doesn't say when she married. Therefore I hoped to find them in the 1900 census which gives that information. There is another connection with Ontario County. Another of my dad's half sisters, Margaret married Jefferson MARSHALL and they lived for a while in Gorham twp. Lurking in the background behind all this is, I hope if I keep at this stubbornly, I'll find out what happened to my Dad's third half sister Lydia. She dropped out of sight in 1880 in SLC and is the only one of my father's many relatives that remains lost. Regards, Bert Kelley

My James PEACOCK died 7 Mar 1872 probably in Farmington. He was a Quaker & his parents Jonathan & Mabel (ROBINSON) PEACOCK came from England as Quakers abt 1802. They went first to Oneida Co & some Peacocks moved on to Ontario & Wayne Cos. James marr Gertrude _______ abt 1803. I have never found their marr record nor Gertrude's last name. James may have remarried betw 1850-1855 because he appears in Farmington censuses in 1855 & 1860 with a Mary (last name may have been SMITH before they married). James was b 1784 in Scarsborough England as a Quaker & he d 7 Mar 1872. The reason I think he died in Farmington is that his obit appears in "The Quaker Yeoman" and mentions that he was an Elder at Farmington Meeting. . Nancy Stephenson Guenther (in So Calif)

POWELL, GARDNER, TEMPLAR, WALLING Denise Mills Thu Nov 28 1996
I am looking for information on the POWELL, GARDNER, and TEMPLAR families who were in the towns of Pharsalia, Plymouth, and Smyrna between 1790 and 1835 or so. Unfortunately, I don't have the exact dates. Information I have: gggg-grandfather, Elijah POWELL, married Janet TEMPLAR 12/5/1794, Pharsalia; ggg-grandfather Elijah Rosen GARDNER married Rebecca POWELL 1/25/1825, Pharsalia; ggg-grandmother Rebecca POWELL b. 12/19/1802, Smyrna; gg-grandmother Florella Augusta GARDNER b. 10/21/1826, Plynmouth. The town names in my query are in Chenago County. The information I have shows my ancestors lived in Chenago, Wayne, and Ontario counties in late 18th and early 19th centuries. I believe the Gardners moved from Chenago Co. to Lake Geneva, WI in the 1830s--which is where my g-g-grandmother married my g-g-grandfather, George WALLING who was born in either Wayne or Ontario Co. His brothers were Frederick and William. I believe the TEMPLARs or POWELLs lived in Chenago Co. when in NY.

John RANSOM [c1784-1830] married 12 Dec 1805 at Caledonia NY [now in Livingston Co] to Amea AMES [1789-1882]. A John is in the 1810 census at Avon NY. Who are their parents? Where did they come from? John & Amea emigrated in 1815 to Geauga Co OH, with the Daniel AMES and Shadrach BOSLEY families, and joining old neighbor Ozi BLAKESLEE in OH. John died in 1830 in Ohio; Amea returned to Avon NY and married Zebulon RATHBONE.

First mention we find of him is in church records for 1796, listing "Talcott REED and wife" as members (of course it would say 'and wife', with no name!!) Talcott was born 1764 in Fairfield Co., CT, William READ and Sarah HAWLEY as parents. Talcott was in Rev. War until 1783. First daughter, Betsy REED was born 1790 in NY. Betsy married Abimael DODGE, Canandaigua, Ontario Co. on 8 Dec 1808. Her sister Sarah REED married William WILLIAMS in 1808, same place, and brother Hawley REED married Deborah BEEBE in 1809, same place. Looking for where exactly Talcott was between 1783 and 1796, where and whom he married. Where daughter Betsy was born in NY, was it in Ontario Co.?? I've checked the Ontario Co. genweb & archives, can't seem to locate any other info on Talcott while he was in NY (I do have a couple of tax roll listings on him also). Any leads or direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Teddy in CA

ROBINSON, COLEMAN, GOULD, KRUMDorothy M. Robinson Wed Apr 2 1997
Dear Ontario Co. Researchers. I have been trying to locate my husband's gggrandparents with very little to go on. Great Grandfather David ROBINSON was born in Gorham, NY on Feb 3, 1815. The 1880 Iowa census record for David gives his father's birth place as MA and his mother's as New York. Since families were large back then, I feel that David had some brothers and/or sisters. Suggestions for his father's name have been John, David, and Daniel or could be something different. David married Mary Ann COLEMAN d of John and Katherine KRUM of Palmyra, NY in 1836. They traveled west with Mary Ann's folks through Ohio and Wisconsin. Sons Ira and Lorin GOULD were born in Wisconsin and Harriet, Henry Orville, John Coleman, Charles Albert, and Jullietta were born in Ohio. The family reached Steamboat Rock, Iowa where they settled in 1865. Any Robinsons out there that fit into this family?

ROBSON/STODDARD Joseph ROBSON married Patty STODDARD (daughter of Solomon STODDARD and Lucinda BUTTRICK) probably before 1850. They lived in the Hall area of Ontario Co. Patty's parents, brother Orison (married Jane MENDALL) , and sister Martha (married Alvah MORELL) moved on to Hillsdale Co, Michigan, There are researchers of both of her siblings, here in Michigan, hoping to find someone from this ROBSON family, willing to fill in our "blank" Family Group Sheet, concerning Joseph and Patty ROBSON! We will be more then happy, to share the information we have, with you. We have failed, to get any information, from ROBSON's we have contacted, who live in the Hall area at the present time.
