From Geneva Gazette 1 January 1886

The Necrology of 1885

We present today a complete list of the people of the village of Geneva who have died during the past year.  A perusal of the same will furnish food for reflection to all.  It will be noticed that of one hundred and sixteen deaths reported to the Registrar, 15 were less than one year old; 11 were between one and twenty-one; 9 between twenty and thirty; 18 between thirty and forty; 12 between forty and fifty; 7 between fifty and sixty; 18 between sixty and seventy; 18 between seventy and eighty; 7 between eighty and eighty-five; 7 between eighty-five and ninety; and one, (Margaret O'Toole) ninety-one years of age at the date of death.  Surely the duration of life is a vast uncertainty, shrouded in impenetrable mystery.

From Geneva Gazette 30 December 1887

THE NECROLOGY OF 1887

We present to-day a complete list of the people of the village of Geneva who have died during the past year.  A perusal of the same will furnish food for reflection to all.  It will be noticed that of the ninety-six deaths reported to the Registrar, 7 were less than 1 year old, 25 were between 1 and twenty-one; 9 between twenty-one and thirty; 8 between thirty and forty; 8 between forty and fifty; 6 between fifty and sixty; 12 between sixty and seventy; 14 between seventy and eighty; 5 between eighty and eighty-five and 2 between eighty-five and ninety.  Surely the duration of life is a vast uncertainty, shrouded in impenetrable mystery.
