Melvin Hill Cemetery is located in the Town of Phelps, on the west side of Melvin Hill Road.  It is north of County Road #23, in Town lot 85, approximately five miles north of the city of Geneva.  It is three miles south of the village of Phelps, and about midway between the hamlets of Oaks Corners and Orleans.

The Cemetery was to serve the community of Melvin Hill.  John Salisbury donated the land.  Yet no mention has been located in the Ontario County Property Deed Indexes of John Salisbury or any Salisbury deeding property for the Melvin Hill Cemetery.  The size of the Cemetery is about three eighths of an acre, measuring 141 feet wide and 116 feet deep.

The Melvin Hill Cemetery Association was incorporated on November 10, 1908.  The record of the association’s incorporations is dated December 7, 1908 and is found in Liber 3, page 262 of the Ontario County Certificates of Incorporation.

The first interment at this location seems to have been Sarah Ann Salisbury, the daughter of John and Polly Salisbury, in March of 1823.
