Naturalization Records of Thomas Kerr and William Kerr

  County of Yates,

    Be it remembered, that Thomas Kerr, on this fourteenth day of October, A.D. 1854 personally appeared before the undersigned, County Clerk of the said County of Yates, and Clerk of the several Courts of Record, held in and for said county, having Common Law jurisdiction, a seal, and a Clerk, and stated he was a native of the Parish of Stoneykirk in the County of Wigton in Scotland and now a resident of the Town of Gorham in the county of Ontario, State aforesaid, an Alien, aged forty six years, and made the following declaration:
    I, Thomas Kerr do solemnly swear that it is bona fide my intention to become a citizen of the United States of America, and forever to renounce all allegiance to all and every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to Victoria the now Queen of Great Britain & Ireland of whom I am now a subject, and that I will support the Constitution of the United States.

     County of Yates,            To the Yates County Circuit Court;

The petition of William Kerr of the Town of Gorham County of Ontario respectfully shows that your Petitioner, as he is informed and believes, was born in Scotland and is now of the age of 24 years, and that he was a subject of the present Queen of Great Britain & Ireland to whom he owed allegiance:  that he emigrated to the Untied States at least five years ago, and he has ever since resided within the United States, and has not for more than five years now last past resided out of, or been out of the Unite States, at any time during the said five years, and for more than one year now last past, he has been a resident of the State of New York; That it has been his bona fide intention for more than five years, now last past, to become a citizen of the Untied States of America, that he came into this country before he was 18 years of age.  Your petitioner therefore prays that he may be admitted to all the rights and benefits, priveleges and immunities of a citizen of the United States of America, pursuant to the provision of the Acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, and to be naturalized as such citizen upon producing satisfactory proof of his good moral character, and attachment to the principle of the Constitution of the United States, and that he is well disposed to the happiness and good order of the same, and upon taking the oath to support the said Constitution, and to renounce allegiance as aforesaid, as is further required by the provisions of the said Acts of Congress.

     Yates County,        On this 16th day of October 1860 before the Yates County Circuit Court, held in and for said County of Yates, and in open Court, personally appeared the aforenamed William Kerr and being duly sworn, says that he has heard read the foregoing petition, subscribed by him, and knows the contents thereof, and that the same are true of his own knowledge, except, as to those matters which he stated to be upon his information and belief, and to those matters, he believes it to be true.
