Obituary as published in the Traverse City Herald, March 2 1893

Michael Murrell
was born in England, Horsted Keynes, county of Sussex, Feb. 11, 1800, and died at his home in Inland, Jan. 23, 1893, aged 92 years, 11 months and 14 days, where he has been a resident for 27 years. He was sick 10 weeks and suffered patiently until death came to his relief. He came to his end in peace. He rests, we trust, with the redeemed, where sickness and death cannot come.

Mr. Murrell was twice married. He was married to his first wife, Miss Ann Hills, in England, where they lived until they moved to York state and from there to Michigan, where she died. In 1872 he was married to Miss Mary E. Barnard; and lived with her until the time of his death. He was the father of 15 children, 6 sons and 7 daughters by his first wife, and one son and one daughter by his last wife. He leaves a wife, four sons and seven daughters, also an adopted daughter and other relatives to mourn his loss. A wife, three sons and one daughter have gone on before. He leaves a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It would be almost impossible to tell the correct number.

The funeral services were held on Sunday, the 29th, at Inland Hall. Rev. O. W. Youker conducted the services and he was laid to rest beside the wife who died twenty-one years ago. A large congregation gathered to pay their last respects to one whom they have known for a great many years. Text, Isaiah 42:2.

Michael and Ann emigrated from London, England, 18 April 1828; landed in NY 1 June with 3 children. Went to East Bloomfield where they lived until 1870. Nine more children were born in East Bloomfield.

MRS.  JAMES  PAGE

Mrs. James Page, one of Du Quoin's pioneer citizens, died at her late home in this city at 9:45 o'clock last Thursday evening, after a severe illness and great suffering. Jane Merrill was born in Sussex county, England, in the year 1825, and was therefore 78 years, 3months and 27 days at the time of her demise. In the year 1828 she came with her parents from England to this country, the family settling in New York. She was married to Mr. Page in 1847. The two surviving daughters of this union are Mrs. Benjamin Skinner, now a resident of Montana, and Mrs. Root Skinner, of Old Town, who constantly ministered at the bedside of her mother during her last illness. Other relatives remaining are three sisters, Mrs. Geo. McKinney, of our city; Mrs. Sarah Leach, of Manhatten, Montana; and Mrs. Fannie Mason, of Michigan; also two brothers, Nelson and George Merrill, both residents of New York.

Since the death of her  husband, Mrs. Page has resided in our city. The funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church, at 2 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, the 23rd inst., conducted by her pastor, Rev. T. E. Spilman. The interment occurred at Old Du Quoin. The casket was not opened at the church, but the remains were viewed at the cemetery. The sympathy and condolence of many friends is extended to the relatives who remain. For them she has left a noble example, a gentle, patient, uncomplaining life.

In this obit the name Merrill should be Murrell. Jane Murrell came to East Bloomfield with her parents, Michael Murrell and Ann Hills in 1828. She married James Page who probably was a brother of Charles Page. They had 4 children all born in EB.
