Shirley Pierce Brown

Shirley Pierce Brown, age 70, of Parish Street Extension, died Thursday, August 1, 1996 at her home.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Marilynn of Brockport; five daughters and sons-in-law, Hugh and Tonya Benzing, Richard and Lucinda Mullen, Collie and Melissa Woodard, all of Canandaigua, Patrick and Shelley Dickerson, Larry and Christina Carter, all of Bloomfield; 16 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beverly Eiseline, Marcia and William Sage, all of Canandaigua, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Irmin and Polly Pierce of Mass., Cameron Pierce of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. "Red" in 1995 and by her sister Virginia Vecchi in 1996.

Mrs. Brown was born in Canandaigua, the daughter of Irmin and Isabel Pierce. She was a lifelong resident of Canandaigua and graduate of Canandaigua Academy Class of 1944.

There will be no prior calling hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 47 North Main St., Canandaigua. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Ontario-Yates Hospice.

ALFRED H. CADE

From the residence in Park Avenue this afternoon was held the funeral of Alfred H. Cade, who died Saturday after a brief illness. Rev. Stephen S. Pratt of the Methodist Church officiated, and bearers were Howard Herendeen, Floyd D. Butler, Dr. F. G. Baldwin, George E. Hopkins and Walter G. Depew of this city, and Ray Conyne of Rochester.

Masonic ritualistic services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery, conducted by Canandaigua Lodge, F. & A. M., of which deceased was a member.

ELLIS EDWARD CADE

Ellis Edward Cade, aged 26 years, died at his home in Gibson Street this morning about 8 o'clock following a short illness. He leaves his father, James H. Cade of this city, three sisters and a brother: Mrs. J. C. Morgan of Canandaigua, Mrs. Irvan Siegrist of Detroit MI, Mrs. Albert Curtis and George Cade of Muncie, IN.

Funeral services will be held from the family home Monday at 2 o'clock, Rev. Stephen S. Pratt officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

GEORGE W. CADE

Word has been received here of the death of George W. Cade, 55, former Canandaiguan, which occurred at his home in Muncie, Ind. on Monday (Jan 17, 1944) after a several weeks illness.

Born in Lincolnshire, England, he came to this country with his parents and two sisters when he was 6 weeks old. He spent his early life in Canandaigua, later moving to Muncie, where he had been a railroad engineer until his illness.

Survivors are his wife and one son, Billy, 13, of Muncie; his father James Cade of Chapin Road and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Curtis of Muncie, Mrs. Irvan Siegrist of Cambridge, OH, and Mrs. Jesse C. Morgan of Rochester.

Funeral services and interment will be in Muncie.

JAMES H. CADE

James H. Cade, 87, retired Chapin Road farmer, died this morning (March 22,1944) in F. F. Thompson Hospital after a 3-month illness.

Born in Lincolnshire, England, Feb. 3, 1857, Mr. Cade came to this country with his wife and three young children in 1890, settling in Ontario County. He had always resided in and around Canandaigua. For 20 years he was employed on the Sonnenberg Estate, now the US Government Hospital Reservation, working in the rose gardens. Until failing health prevented, he was active in the Methodist Church, of which he was a member.

Twice married, his first wife died in 1923 and in 1929 he married Miss Minnie Carrington of this city.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Curtis of Muncie, ,. MrInd.s. Maude Siegrist if Cambridge, Ohio, and Kathleen Morgan of Rochester. Eight grandchildren: Mrs. Grace Hodge of Victor, Mrs. Eleanor Shields of Pittsford, Miss., Janet Cade of Canandaigua, Mrs. Virginia Bliek of Webster, Roger J. Cade , US Navy, Honolulu, Hawaii; Robert S. Siegrist of Detroit, Mich., James Siegrist, Army Air Corp., and William Cade of Muncie, Ind. Two great-grandchildren and a stepson and daughter, Edward Carrington of Baltimore, MD, and Mrs. Clarence Benham of this city. A son, George, of Muncie Ind., died in January.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist Church, the Rev. Sylvanus S. Davies D.D., pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

MRS. JAMES H. CADE

Funeral services for Mrs. James H. Cade, who died Tuesday, were held from the residence in Gibson Street this afternoon,Rev. Stephen S. Pratt officiating. Bearers were Will E. Martin, H. E. Brownell, James McKerr, I. F. White, O. G. Carmen and A.W. Birch. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

STEWART DAVID CADE

Stewart David Cade, aged 27 years, died on Saturday evening at his home, 24 North Morell Ave., after an illness of influenza which developed into pneumonia. Mr. Cade was employed by the Empire Gas and Electric Company as an electrician. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

The survivors are his wife, Edith Chambers Cade, one daughter, Virginia, his parents, Mr and Mrs. James Cade of
Canandaigua. Three brothers, George and Ellis Cade of Canandaigua and Alfred H. Cade of Philadelphia. Three sisters
Mrs. Albert Curtis and Mrs. Irvan Siegrist of Muncie, Ind., and Mrs. Jesse Morgan of Canandaigua. The funeral will be held at the residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. E. B. Topping will officiate and burial will be made in Glenwood Cemetery.

RUTH M. CARTWRIGHT, Churchwoman, Dies at 68

Mrs. Ruth Margaret Cartwright, wife of Rochester Postmaster Louis B. Cartwright and a leading churchwoman, died at her home, 141 Brookwood Road, Brighton, yesterday (Sept. 30, 1960), after an 18 month illness. She was 68.

Her husband also served as Rochester city manager from 1940 to 1953 when he resigned to become postmaster.

Mrs. Cartwright was born on June 21, 1892 in Canandaigua, the daughter or Mr. and Mrs. George W. Pierce. Her father was manager of Brigham Hall farm. She was married in her parents home there on her birthday in 1922.

Mrs. Cartwright was active in local civic and church affairs.

She was responsible for all Red Cross activities in the 19th ward as chairman of the ward unit of the Rochester-Monroe County Chapter.

She also was a charter member of the Women of Rotary, a member of the Friends of Rochester Public Library and a past secretary and past vice-president of the Woman's Council of the Rochester Museum Association.

Mrs. Cartwright was a member of the board of trustees, member of the board of stewards and president of the Association of Universalist Woman, Rochester Chapter, of the First Universalist Church of Rochester.

She also served on the national board of the Association of Universalist Woman from 1945-1949. She was especially interested in the international church extension committee, and was given an honorary life membership in the association at the 1953 Assembly of the Universalist Church of America.

Mrs. Cartwright was the vice-president of the New York State Woman's Universalist Association from 1952-53.

Through her interest in international service, she sponsored and provided a home for six years for Aiko Onishi, a Universalist girl from Japan. During that time Miss Aiko was graduated from the Eastman School of Music and received an artists diploma in piano. She returned to Tokyo in 1956 and is now teaching and giving concert piano performances.

Another of Mrs. Cartwright's interests was the Clara Barton Camp for diabetic children maintained by the Association of Universalist Woman at the birthplace of Miss Barton, at Oxford, Mass. The women of the Rochester church will present an organ to the camp in Mrs. Cartwright's memory.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Cartwright is survived by two daughters, Miss Eleanor L. Cartwright and Mrs. George E. Croop, both of Rochester; three sisters, Mrs. Earl F. Case of Rochester, Mrs. George Conyne of Canandaigua and Mrs. William Davis of Geneva; her brother, Irmin L. Pierce of Canandaigua; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P. M. on Monday at the First Universalist Church. Friends may contribute to the Radiation Therapy fund of Strong Memorial Hospital or the Memorial Fund of the First Universalist Church.

ESTHER PIERCE CASE

BRIGHTON - Former Canandaigua resident Esther Pierce Case died yesterday (Oct. 27) at her home. Mrs. Case was 92.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Lucy Case and E. Gerald and Marjorie Case, all of Canandaigua; a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Philip Lewis of Pittsford; daughter-in-law, Ethel W. Case of Pittsford; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Case was predeceased by her husband, Earl F. Case who died in 1962 and her son Lewis H. Case.

There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.

Arrangements were made by the Kennedy and Son Funeral Home, 13 Bristol Street, Canandaigua.

MRS. MARION PIERCE CADE DAVIS

Mrs. Marion Pierce Cade Davis, 79, of Geneva, died Thursday in Geneva General Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Canandaigua August 22,1894, the daughter of George and Fannie Francis Pierce. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of the Thompson Hospital School of Nursing and practiced in Canandaigua and Clifton Springs.

A Geneva resident for the past 21 years, she was a past matron of the Canandaigua Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Geneva.

Survivors include her husband William, a son Roger J. Cade of Ventura, Calif., a daughter Mrs. Edward (Janet) Hansen of Orleans; two sisters Mrs. Earl (Esther) Case of Rochester and Mrs. C. Harvey (Lois) Jewett of Canandaigua. Nine grand- children and one great granddaughter.

Friends may call at Kennedy and Son Funeral Home, Canandaigua Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p. m. The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.



BEVERLY (PIERCE) EISELINE

Beverly Eiseline slipped peacefully into death at Thompson Continuing Care Center, on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in her eighty-fifth year.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Eiseline; her sisters Virginia Vecchi, Marcia Sage, Shirley Brown and her brother Sherwood Pierce.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverly (Ray-mond) L'Hommedieu Jr. of Gates, NY, Virginia (Richard) DeMunck of Greece, NY, Martha (Richard) Wood of Middlesex, NY, Kim Eiseline of Greece, NY, and her son Frederick D. (Renee) Eiseline of Pittsford, NY; her ten grandchildren, George L'Hommedieu, Norman (Colleen) L'Hommedieu and Aimee Rae all of Chile, NY, Sharyn (Clif) Howe of Harrisburg, SD, Scoot Wood of Macedon, NY, and Scott, Lisa, and Eric Eiseline, all of Pittsford, NY; her thirteen great-grandchildren; her brothers, Irmin L. (Pauline) Pierce Jr. of Tyngsboro, Mass, and Cameron E. Pierce of Canandaigua, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 8 pm, at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua, NY. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Canandaigua Emergency Squad.

Steven Francis, an old and highly respected resident, died Thursday, Oct. 19, aged 86 years, and was buried from the Universalist Church Friday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Orelup officiating.

*Note: Correct spelling is Stephen. He is buried at Baptist Hill Cemetery in Bristol. He was the husband of both Betsey and Nancy Waldron, and the son of Seth Francis and Mercy Farrar.

Obituary of Anne Lois Briggs-Francis;

The remains of Mrs. John Francis, who died on Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Pierce, at Canandaigua were interred here on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Francis had been a sufferer from creeping paralysis for seven years. The deceased is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Pierce.

Note: Buried at Baptist Hill / Evergreen Town of Bristol.

Obituary of John Hill Francis;

John Francis, a native of this town and who lived the greater part of his life here, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Pierce, at Canandaigua last Thursday. He was the eldest son of Stephen and Betsey Waldron Francis. One sister, Mrs. Maria McMillian; one daughter, Mrs. George Pierce; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild survive. He was a veteran of the Civil war and a member of the 85th regiment, N.Y. Volunteers. For 15 years previous to his last illness he was a watchman at the capitol in Washington. The past 18 months he has been ill. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. E. P. Wood officiating.

Marcia P. Sage - Beloved mother, grandmother

Marcia P. Sage, age 76, of Purdy Road and formerly of Fort Hill Avenue, died Saturday, September 18, 1999, at her home.

She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and Pete Smythe of Canandaigua, N.Y., Susan Sage of Rochester, N.Y., and Pamela Glen of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren, Leia, Jacob, and Jared Glen and
Michelle Dudley; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Irmin and Pauline Pierce of Tyngsboro, Mass., Cameron Pierce of Moorehead City, N.C.; and one sister, Beverly Eiseline of Canandaigua, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Sage in April 1998.

Mrs. Sage was born in Canandaigua, N.Y. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy Class of 1940, and Highland Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1944. Mrs. Sage was a registered nurse at Canandaigua VA Medical Center in
1945 and later worked at the Canandaigua Medical Group for 23 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home, 47 North Main Street, Canandaigua, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 58 North Main Street, Canandaigua, N.Y. 14424.

Virginia Pierce Vecchi

Virginia Pierce Vecchi, age 77, formerly of North Main Street, Canandaigua, died January 30, 1996 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David A. and Melody Vecchi of Park City, Utah, Peter Vecchi of Seattle, Wash; three grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Irmin L. Jr. and Pauline Pierce of Tyngsboro, Mass, Cameron and Marjorie Pierce of Canandaigua; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marcia and William Sage, Beverly Eiseline and Shirley Brown, all of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vecchi was predeceased by her husband Anthony F. in 1989.

Mrs. Vecchi was born in Canandaigua and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy. She received a BA Degree from Ithaca College. She was a Physical Education teacher for several years.

She was a member of the American Legion Post 256 Ladies Auxiliary, member of St. Mary's Church, former member of the Canandaigua Country Club and the former Kanandaqua Country Club. She operated a grocery store in Canandaigua with her husband Tony for many years.

Friends may call Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John C. Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 47 North Main Street, Canandaigua, from where a prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am, at St. Mary's Church. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association-Rochester Chapter.
