RECORD OF DAVID KNAPP’S WILL

The last will and testament of David Knapp of the town of Hopewell in the county of Ontario and State of New York.

I David Knapp of the town, county and state aforesaid, aged 70 years and upward and being of sound mind and disposing memory do herby make publish and declare this my last will and testament as follows:

First – I give and bequeath to my wife Margret Knapp the use and occupation of the farm on which I know reside situated in the town of Hopewell aforesaid and containing about one hundred and seventeen acres of land on the following conditions that is, the use and occupation during her life time for 50 acres of the north side of said farm with the appurtenance there unto belonging to be on that part of said farm lying east of the Highway running north and south and I also give and bequeath to my said wife Margret the use and occupation of the residence of my said farm until my son Jared Knapp should pay or (?) to the paid farm from his own property. The legacies by this my last will bequeathed that is to say to my son John Knapp the sum of 800 dollars to be paid within two years from the time of my decease, to my son Halsted Knapp the sum of 400 dollars within five years from my decease; to my daughter Mary Jane Warner wife of Hiram Warner the sum of 600 dollars and to my granddaughter Margret Rees daughter of Peter and Hannah Rees, $700 to be paid either in person, to the said last mentioned …to be paid within five years of the time of my decease and on the payment by my said son Jared of the above mention sum or the will and occupation of my said wife to cease in all of my said farm except the 50 acres within described the use and occupation of house heretofore bequeathed to her for her lifetime. I also give and bequeath to my wife Margret Knapp after the payment of my just debts and cap… the use and occupation of my personal property during her lifetime.

Of the sum within mentioned to be paid by son Jared at the time there specified.

I give and bequeath to my son John Knapp $800

I give and bequeath to my son Halsted Knapp $400

I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jane the wife of Hiram Warner $600

I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Margret Rees daughter of Peter and Hannah Rees $700 to be paid to her personally.

I give and devise to my son Jared Knapp my farm on which I know reside …in Hopewell and containing about 1117 cares of land to him, his heirs and assigns forever, provide he shall pay…at the times mentioned. 

…I also give and bequeath to my son Jared Knapp after the decease of my said wife Margret all my personal property there may then be left or remaining.

I hereby nominate and appoint my wife Margret Knapp and my son Jared Knap of Hopewell aforesaid executors of this my last will and testament.
