Location
The Village of Honeoye is situated in the beautiful Honeoye Valley, about one-quarter mile from the foot of Honeoye Lake, and in thrift, energy, and beauty is second to no village of its size in the State. Its moral tone is unsurpassed. There is no disturbing element in the village, and no license has been granted in more than twenty-five years.

ALLEN'S HILL - The first record of School District No. 2 is for the year 1816, and at the regular annual meeting held in "the house of Nathaniel Allen," after the election of officers, it was "voted that a pair of andirons be purchased for said district, at a price not to exceed five dollars; also, a fire hook." In 1817 it was "voted that the trustees employ Orsemus Smith to teach our school, if he can be had at $20.00 per month and take one-half of his pay in grain." Again, "voted that the trustees employ Miss Susan Blanchard to teach our school at $1.50 per week, one half cash and the other half in wheat by the first part of February, 1821." Stove first used in school room in 1823, wood being furnished for "Delinquents by Nathaniel Hicks at 5s. 5d. per cord." A new school house was built in 1828. The record is "the trustees to build a new school house, the expense not to be more than $150, the house to be 24 by 20 fete and lited by five 20 lite windows of 7 by 9 glass." In 1849 the present school house was built at a cost of $716.58, and is at present the most commodious rooms in town, and in outward appearance a credit to the district. The amount of taxable property is said district is about $111,000. There is at present but one department, and for teachers' wages eight and ten dollars per wee are paid for thirty-four weeks each year. [The above interesting historical sketch was written by the late Lucius Pierpont, at one time School Commissioner, and always a friend of education.]

This district, besides the territory included within its present boundary, also included the most of what is now the Denison's Corners District. It has always had good teaches and a good school. It boasted at one time of the largest family in town, that of Wheeler Reed, which numbered twenty-one, seventeen of whom attended school at one time. It has furnished for the town four supervisors: Issachar Frost, Wm. T. Reed, John A. Reed, Chas. E. Reed.

The first school house was built of logs, and situated one-half mile west of the Center, supposed tot have been the first school house built in town, as Hiram Pitts attended school there in 1805. In March, 1806, the First Congregational Society of Pittstown voted money to help the trustees erect a frame building, which was used both as a church and school house until 1815. Town meetings were also held here for several years. The society afterwards leased the grounds on which the school house stood to the trustees of the district for the consideration of one pepper-corn a year. In 1878 the society conveyed one and one-fourth acres of land to the district, and then was dissolved. On this site the present school house was built the same year at an expense of nearly $1,000.
